Profile

Pellham Phillips Architects & Engineers provides services in the disciplines of architecture, engineering, planning, and interior design throughout the United States.

With three decades of experience, Pellham Phillips has earned the reputation as the premier architectural/engineering firm in the region. In 2008, we were named the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year. While some may not know much about our firm, they certainly know our work. In fact, when making a list of the landmark buildings in Southwest Missouri, most have been designed by Pellham Phillips.

Although we focus on five primary market segments; religious, industrial/commercial, hospitality, education and sports, we are experienced in a wide variety of projects. In our long history, we have designed projects as diverse as baseball parks, television stations, restaurants, hiking trails, and secret government intelligence facilities.

Pellham Phillips Architects & Engineers was founded by Galen Pellham in 1977. Our first project was the Hammons Fountain at Southwest Missouri State University. In 1979, the current owner of the firm, Larry Phillips, P.E. became partners with Galen. At that time, we adopted the somewhat unusual philosophy that architects, engineers, and interior designers should all work side by side. By integrating architecture and engineering as part of the architectural problem solving and design process, we can save the client time and money.

Currently employing more than twenty professionals, Pellham Phillips is ranked by the Springfield Business Journal as one of the largest architect/engineering firms in the region. While there are larger firms, we consider our size to be the optimum size for our clients. We're large enough to provide our customers with experienced professionals in all disciplines, but small enough to give each client the special attention they deserve.

Philosophy

"To transform the vision of each client into reality through architecture, engineering and interior design."

It's all about the client

To some architects, the following statement may sound like fingernails scraping down a chalkboard. "The essence of architecture isn't designing cool buildings with interesting forms and graceful lines. The true essence of architecture is designing space that fully meets the needs, wants and desires of the client. It has to work". Sometimes that means designing the most beautiful minor league ballpark in the country, Hammons Field. Sometimes that means designing a very traditional school for a German-Catholic community, Maries County R-1 High School. At Pellham Phillips, our goal is to see the client's vision, not to impose our vision on them. We listen to the client, ask questions, see their vision, and use our talent, experience and expertise to transform their vision into reality.

Integrated architecture, engineering, and interior design

A typical building project involves 60% architecture and 40% engineering. In order to successfully integrate this degree of engineering and architecture, the project must have good communication. Communication best occurs when the design professionals involved are all housed within the same firm. This is an important distinction from firms that farm out segments of the work to consultants outside their office. Pellham Phillips has assembled all the necessary professionals within one firm (architecture, engineering, and interior design). What sets us apart from our competitors is that we address these issues as an integral part of the architectural problem solving and design process.

Interior design is more than wall coverings and carpet. It's actually a marriage of aesthetics and functionality. We will interview your staff, record existing furnishings, as well as the special requirements and equipment unique to your facility. Those individual needs will then be evaluated in the context of your overall vision and budget. Together, we develop ways to accommodate adjacency, traffic flow, storage, privacy, security, and telecommunications.

Our coordinated approach produces a more unified design and complete set of construction documents. This approach reduces questions during bidding and construction phases, which results in:

On a scale of 1 to 10, I would rate my experience with Pellham Phillips a 10 ½!

Even though the entire project was competed long distance, we had a wonderful working relationship with Chuck and the firm, the distance thing wasn't a problem at all.

The construction manager commented that the communication with the Pellham Phillips was extremely helpful.

I would highly recommend Pellham Phillips to anyone considering them for an upcoming project."

Even though our project was only $2.5 million, they made us feel like it was $24 million … others would have built us a building, but Pellham Phillips designed a school where we can educate our kids."
